Emma organises the following RunTogether groups in North Somerset:
* Clevedon Ladies Running Group
* Winscombe Ladies Running Group
All of the groups are mixed ability and for all ages, 18 upwards.
* In Clevedon we run every Monday and Thursday 6-7pm, starting near the entrance to Morrisons car park.
* In Winscombe we run every Wednesday, 6-7pm (meeting in front of the Woodborough pub on Sandford Road), and Friday mornings 9.30-10.30am (meeting in the Winscombe Community Centre Annexe, Sandford Road).
We run all year round! So come along - you'd be very welcome to join us. We welcome all abilities, from the absolute beginner, to the experienced runner that can already run - you don't need to get fit before joining. The groups are designed primarily to encourage and support all runners. Open to everyone from 18-75. Irrespective of age, ability, speed, shape and size.
How to join the running groups
To join in, register online in advance at www.runtogether.co.uk and book in for your first run, or you can simply turn up to class, or contact Emma on 01275 343918 or email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions beforehand. There is a charge of £4 per person, pay-as-you-go each session.
Each session lasts approx 60 minutes and includes warm up, cool down and stretches, and a combination of running & walking on the flat, hills, on & off road, speed work etc. The sessions aren't about running a set distance - it's more about doing your best and watching yourself improve over time. We start with a walk and some dynamic stretching. I encourage beginners who haven't run before to do more walking than jogging in the first few weeks. We don't worry too much about distance. Instead we work on short efforts for strength, speed and hills etc. We sometimes do short timed routes and also out and backs. The faster runners loop-back to keep the group together - we were all beginners once, and we try to encourage the less experienced runners in the group - we've got some very supportive groups. Some people are working towards their first race, others to help improve their stamina and pace, plus general health, fitness and weight loss.
You need to wear comfortable clothing to exercise in, removable layers, sports bra and supportive trainers are good. Before you go out and purchase any new shoes/clothing/equipment, we can provide you with some local specialist retail discounts. You may also want to bring a drink of water in a small bottle, that you can carry, especially in hot weather.
We bring Joining Forms to every session, which you can take away with you afterwards. We will need to know you about your health before we start eg. diabetes, heart problems, joint problems, high blood pressure, asthma, back pain, previous injuries & illnesses, medication etc.
